Launched in 2016, CU Futures now in its ninth year of operation has overseen 83 individual graduates from 43 different credit unions across England, Scotland and Wales and this year’s class continued their progression through the course with a two-day event hosted at Arbuthnot Latham’s head office in London.

The group undertook Presentation and Media Skills training, led by former Chair of the Credit Union Foundation and current UK Small Business Commissioner, Liz Barclay and completed their fourth module of the High-Performance Culture development from The Pacific Institute.

A key element of the CU Futures Programme is for the group to present proposals at the ABCUL annual conference, which meet the sector’s challenges and opportunities. Liz’s session was an important opportunity for them to gather in their groups and work on their proposals.

“Like every year, this class has an enthusiastic passion for our sector and are making great progress into the busy schedule so far, says Project Manager at ABCUL, Jake Hatch. “I am delighted that another group has participated in this one-of-a-kind development opportunity for young professionals to further their skills and experience and progress to the next stage of their careers. I’d like to thank on behalf of the Credit Union Foundation our hosts at Aburthnot Latham for supporting the programme and making our group so welcome throughout the two-days.”

Commenting on the CU Futures programme, Senior Commercial Banker at Arbuthnot Latham, Lee Summers said: “It was an absolute pleasure to welcome and host the CU Future participants to our new London office and engage with such inspiring young people

“I am excited to see the lasting impact these future leaders will have on the GB credit union sector and the vital role it plays.

“The Credit Union sector is one we are proud to support – both from a client and advocacy level. Our values align closely and from my own perspective, the deeply powerful impact for social good the sector has in providing crucial financial services to its members resonates deeply with me on every personal level”.
