Volunteer Committee Member – Audit & Risk Sub-committee

Time Commitment: Approx. 30 hours per yearDescription:
As a volunteer (althugh in some circumstances we are able to cover any loss of
earnings), you’ll be making a meaningful contribution to a non-profit organisation, while
benefiting from opportunities for personal and professional development. You’ll work
closely with the ARSC Chair, Board Members, and Senior Management, gaining insight
into our credit union’s operations and influencing key decisions. Sub-committee
members are also viewed favourably for potential future roles on the Board, offering a
valuable pathway for those interested in contributing to the longer-term development

• Time Commitment: We’re looking for someone who can dedicate around 30
hours per year, plus occasional events and training sessions as needed. Our SubCommittee currently meets every other month on a Tuesday afternoon for about
2–3 hours, making it a flexible commitment that can work around other priorities.
• Compensation: We value your time and commitment! Travel expenses are
covered, and we’ll reimburse any costs for caring requirements – whether for
children, elderly family members, or other dependents – while you attend
meetings.
• Term: We ask for an initial commitment of three years, with opportunities to renew

Policy & Advocacy Officer
ABCUL£23,000 – £25,000 depending on experience
Credit unions in Britain have been in existence for 60 years. There have always been representative bodies in the sector throughout that period. Emerging from the former Credit Union League of Great Britain (CULGB) in 1984 ABCUL has always been the major credit union trade association representing the largest number of credit unions in England, Scotland and Wales.
We represent over two thirds of the more than 300 credit unions operating across England, Scotland and Wales, and provide a wide range of services to our member credit unions to support them to develop and thrive as trusted providers of financial services to communities across Britain.
We are now seeking to appoint an exceptional individual to support our continued development with our membership and stakeholders. The role holder will report to the Head of Advocacy and Projects who is looking for an individual who can:
- Monitor, filter and analyse a wide variety of sources for information relevant to credit unions including information from government departments, regulators, media and other stakeholders
- Research and analysis of the work of credit unions
- Gather information and draw up policy positions to ensure that credit unions’ interests are represented
- Assist with the administration of the All-Party Parliamentary Group on Credit Unions and Scottish Parliament’s Cross-Party Group on Credit Unions
- Assist with the co-ordination of events, including parliamentary meetings and member conferences
- Support the development of relationships with external stakeholders and ABCUL members, to include preparing briefings, presentations, consultation responses, web content and news articles
Some experience of policy work is an advantage. Strong communication skills in writing and verbally will be required along with an organised approach to managing information. Education to degree level or equivalent experience is expected.

Job Description:
- Ensure credit union operations run fluently and effectively and are in compliance with FCA/PRA and all other relevant regulations.
- Identify products that will benefit our members and that will assist in providing a competitive range of services including appropriate support to financially excluded communities.
- Develop risk based pricing in accordance with product development and associated credit union policies.
- Provide regular reviews of our systems developing and improving them in the best interest of members.
