Wave Community Bank Champions the Conversation for Talk Money Week 2025
ABCUL is proud to support Talk Money Week 2025, taking place from 3–7 November, shining a light on the work credit unions and community banks are doing across the UK to get people talking about money. This year’s theme, “Start the Conversation,” is all about encouraging open, honest discussions that help people take control of their finances – something that Wave Community Bank has long championed in its work with members, employers and local communities.

Supporting Conversations That Matter
Throughout Talk Money Week, Wave Community Bank is running a programme of events with its Employer Partners, designed to empower staff and workplaces to talk openly about financial wellbeing and tackle the stigma around money worries.
A key part of this activity is a series of webinars in partnership with the England Illegal Money Lending Team (IMLT), which aim to raise awareness of loan sharks — how to spot them, the risks they pose, and how to support staff who may have been affected.
By sharing these messages and opening up conversations, WCB hopes to help people feel confident speaking up about money problems and predatory lending, while connecting them to the safe, fair and supportive services available through their community bank.
Building Financial Confidence Across Communities
As part of its ongoing mission to promote financial inclusion, Wave Community Bank continues to work closely with employers, local authorities and community organisations to make ethical financial services accessible to all.
Through payroll saving and responsible lending, Wave empowers members to build financial resilience in a sustainable, community-focused way — helping thousands of people across Sussex to improve their financial wellbeing.
“Talk Money Week has become an important part of our work”
Emma Norledge, Deputy CEO at Wave Community Bank, said:
“Talk Money Week has become an important part of our work supporting members and the community as it gives a focus to the conversations that need to be had to help manage money well.
“We’re running events all week with our Employer Partners including the webinars in partnership with the IMLT to help raise awareness of loan sharks and how to spot if a staff member has fallen prey of a loan shark.
“By sharing the message we hope it will help people speak up about loan sharks and money worries in general.”
Start the Conversation
Wave Community Bank’s commitment to Talk Money Week reflects the strength of the wider credit union and community banking movement – working together to build financially confident, resilient communities.
