Plane Saver Credit Union has launched a new partnership with Luton Borough Council, introducing a payroll savings scheme for council employees and extending ethical financial services to the wider Luton community.

The partnership officially launches on 28 January 2026, beginning with a payroll savings offer for council staff. Employees will be able to save directly from their salary, making it easier to build financial security while also gaining access to affordable, ethical loans as an alternative to high-cost credit.

Following a successful merger with Money Matters Community Bank, Plane Saver Credit Union continues to scale its community-focused model through strategic local authority partnerships. The Luton initiative will also support residents across the borough, helping to keep money within the local economy and reinvested for community benefit through dividends and low-cost lending.

Gary Lewis, Chief Executive of Plane Saver Credit Union, said: “This partnership with Luton Borough Council demonstrates the important role credit unions can play in supporting financial resilience at both an employer and community level.

“By embedding saving into everyday life and providing access to ethical finance, we’re helping individuals and communities build stronger financial foundations.”

The launch coincides with Plane Saver’s participation in Luton’s Fairness Taskforce, where the credit union will engage with local businesses and residents on practical ways to support financial wellbeing across the borough.

The partnership reflects growing recognition among local authorities of credit unions as trusted, community-rooted financial institutions capable of delivering inclusive, sustainable financial solutions at scale.
