Oldham Credit Union (OCU) announced at the end of 2025 that Lyndsey Gilkes will take on the role of Chief Executive, bringing over six years of experience from Hoot Credit Union to the position.
Founded in 2002, Oldham Credit Union is a not-for-profit, democratic financial co-operative, owned and run by its members. With a mission to provide fair and straightforward financial services, OCU operates on the principles of mutual self-help, offering an alternative to traditional banks and building societies. Unlike mainstream financial institutions, credit unions do not borrow in wholesale money markets, instead focusing solely on serving their members with secure, competitive, and ethical financial products.
OCU currently serves over 4,000 members, with membership growing at 10% annually. Since its inception, the credit union has loaned more than £6 million to members, with total savings of over £1.6 million and outstanding loans exceeding £1.2 million. The organisation works closely with local partners to promote savings, provide fair loans, and support financial education within the Oldham community.
Commenting on her appointment, Lyndsey Gilkes said: “I am absolutely thrilled to be joining Oldham Credit Union as Chief Executive. I am deeply passionate about our community and the vital role credit unions play in building financial resilience. I am honoured to lead OCU at such a pivitol time and to work alongside a dedicated team committed to making a real difference.
“I can’t wait to help shape a future where everyone in our community has access to fair, ethical and supportive financial services.
Here’s to the journey ahead!”
OCU looks forward to continuing its growth and reinforcing its commitment to providing accessible, ethical, and high-quality financial services to the people of Oldham.
