ABCUL members nationwide have supported Talk Money Week through events, social campaigns, and community initiatives — all designed to encourage more open conversations about money. This year’s theme, “Start the Conversation”, invites everyone — from families to employers and financial professionals — to talk about money more openly and confidently.
Two credit unions taking a leading role this year are Bradford District Credit Union and Wave Community Bank:
- Bradford District Credit Union (BDCU) BDCU has a series of activities across Bradford, including roadshows, community events, and the Protecting Communities from Financial Harm webinar on 5 November. The credit union has also unveiled new research with the University of York, highlighting the vital role credit unions play in improving public health, strengthening local economies, and fostering community resilience.

As part of Talk Money Week 2025, ABCUL hosted a webinar exploring how credit unions and the Money and Pensions Service (MaPS) are working together to improve financial wellbeing across the country.
The online session, held during the national campaign running 3–7 November, highlighted the vital role credit unions play in supporting savings, promoting responsible borrowing, and strengthening communities through collaboration. It forms part of the wider Money Guiders Network initiative, helping practitioners develop money guidance skills and share best practice across the sector.
During the webinar, ABCUL Communications Manager, Patrick Thorpe shared insights into the positive work taking place across the credit union movement and the impact of partnerships with MaPS in driving financial confidence.
“We’re delighted to be taking part in Talk Money Week and to speak about the important work happening across the credit union sector,” said Patrick.
“Credit unions make a real difference in people’s lives every day – helping members to save, borrow responsibly, and build financial resilience. It’s great to see the sector’s impact recognised as part of a campaign like this, and to demonstrate how partnerships like those with MaPS can make an even greater difference in transforming communities.”
The session also featured real-world examples from Northern Community Bank, showcasing how local collaboration is helping people build better financial futures. Attendees learned about practical tools such as Money Guiders resources and budget planners, which support effective money guidance conversations and strengthen relationships within communities.
