The Welsh Credit Union Celebration Awards 2025 took place on Thursday 16 October, bringing together credit unions and supporters from across Wales to recognise the exceptional people and partners who make a real difference in their communities.
Since its launch in 2017, the Credit Unions of Wales Awards have grown into one of the highlights of the year for the movement. Coinciding with International Credit Union Day, the annual event shines a spotlight on the unsung heroes whose work strengthens the reach and impact of credit unions across Wales.
Award categories recognise the breadth of contribution made by individuals and organisations, including Member Making a Difference, School Partner, Payroll Partner, Volunteer of the Year, Workplace Champion, Special Recognition, Access to Financial Services, and Product and Innovation, among others.
As in previous years, ABCUL proudly sponsored the event. ABCUL Chief Executive Matt Bland attended the ceremony to congratulate the winners and acknowledge the dedication of the entire Welsh credit union movement.
“It’s a real pleasure to be here celebrating the outstanding achievements of our Welsh credit unions and their partners,” said Matt. “Throughout my career in the credit union sector, I’ve always been inspired by the collaborative and cooperative spirit that defines the Welsh movement. Credit unions in Wales truly embody what our movement is all about – people helping people for the good of everyone.
“I look forward to continuing to support Welsh credit unions with my utmost dedication and want to congratulate everyone involved in this week’s celebrations. The sector in Wales benefits from strong support from the Welsh Government, and ABCUL will continue to advocate on behalf of our members to ensure that this support grows, helping credit unions to reach even more people and strengthen the communities they serve.”
