London Capital Credit Union has announced the appointment of Gurminder Singh Bhagrath as its new Chief Executive Officer, marking a new chapter for the credit union as it builds on nearly two decades of strong leadership and community impact.

Gurminder takes over from Martin Groombridge, who led London Capital Credit Union for almost 18 years. During his tenure, Martin helped grow the credit union into a pillar of vital strength within its community, championing cooperative finance and ensuring members had access to fair, ethical financial services. His leadership leaves a lasting legacy of resilience, inclusion and trust.

Commenting on his appointment, Gurminder said: “As I step into the role of CEO at London Capital Credit Union, I want to begin by thanking Martin for his exceptional 18 years of leadership. His dedication and belief in the power of cooperative finance have strengthened this organisation and the communities we serve. It’s a privilege to build on the foundations he helped create.

London Capital has always stood for something bigger than finance. It’s a place where people are empowered, where fairness is lived out every day, and where communities find support and dignity. I’m honoured to carry that mission forward.

My commitment is to lead with purpose, to innovate responsibly, and to ensure we continue expanding access to ethical, inclusive financial services. Credit unions truly change lives, and I’m determined to make sure we keep doing exactly that, at even greater scale.”

ABCUL congratulates Gurminder on his appointment and thanks Martin Groombridge for his outstanding service and leadership.
