The ABCUL Inclusivity Group (AIG)
The ABCUL Inclusivity Group (AIG) was formed in 2020 as part of the ABCUL Board’s commitment to a diverse range of appropriately skilled candidates is available for election to the ABCUL Board, and other elected positions such as Forum Officers. The AIG makes
recommendations to ensure that the importance of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion is reflected in the development, recruitment, and activities of the ABCUL Board.
The AIG’s remit is to consider the following issues and make recommendations for change:
- Criteria that candidates should meet in order to be an ABCUL Director
- Barriers which prevent those who may meet the criteria from putting themselves forward and stop them feeling included or welcome in the Association’s democratic structures, including the ABCUL Board
- Needs for education or development within the ABCUL Board to ensure that Diversity, Equity, Inclusion and Nurturing Talent are central to its operation
- Activities which should be put in place to encourage suitably skilled people, including those from under-represented groups, to put themselves forward for elected positions within the Association
- Training and development activities which should be put in place to ensure that candidates for elected positions, and elected officers, are prepared and skilled for roles in the Association.
The AIG is made up of up to three independent members, up to four ABCUL member representatives, one former ABCUL Board member and one ABCUL Board member.
Its current members are:
Bobby Gould – Independent Member and Chair
Ayesha Begum – Independent Member
Carol Gillon – Former ABCUL Director
Matt Bland – ABCUL Director
Simon Haslam – Member Representative
