A prestigious scholarship in the global credit union movement, which recognises individuals who have demonstrated leadership and exemplify a commitment to improving lives through financial cooperatives has been awarded to Pennine Community Credit Union’s COO, Tia Warbrick.

The World Young Credit Union Professionals (WYCUP) programme is an initiative of the Worldwide Foundation for Credit Unions – partner organisation of the World Council of Credit Unions. Every year, the WYCUP connects emerging leaders to a world of opportunity through WOCCU’s global network of credit unions and financial cooperatives.

“I am thrilled to have been awarded the WYCUP Scholarship,” said Tia. “I see it as a brilliant opportunity to engage with credit union professionals worldwide, fostering collaboration and mutual learning. I feel honoured to have been selected and I look forward to being inspired by connecting with fellow credit union enthusiasts and gaining a global perspective on broader industry issues.”

For 2024, applicants had the chance to apply for the Confederation of Caribbean Credit Unions Convention (CCCU), June 21-26 in St Kitts and Nevis, or the World Credit Union Conference (WCUC), July 21-24 in Boston, USA.

WYCUP Programme Manager Ari Farrell said: “With a record number of 110 applications from six continents, it was a challenge selecting among so many deserving candidates” and “It’s exciting to see the WYCUP network expand around the world and provide new opportunities for these scholars to engage internationally”.

The additional five participants joining Tia are: Julian Nagi (Ireland), Clara Kiefel-Johnson (Australia), Nazira Burgos (Costa Rica), Sidnei Alves Taborda (Brazil), and Kerry-Ann Mccollin (Barbados).
