Vice Chair at Plane Saver Credit Union, Appointed as MBE

Plane Saver Credit Union is delighted to announce that their Vice Chair of the Board, Joy Maitland CBP MGP FIoD FCMI FIoL, has been appointed to the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire (MBE) for her services to business and charity. This prestigious honour recognises Joy’s unwavering dedication and outstanding contributions to the community.

Plane Saver Credit Union is delighted to announce that their Vice Chair of the Board, Joy Maitland CBP MGP FIoD FCMI FIoL, has been appointed to the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire (MBE) for her services to business and charity. This prestigious honour recognises Joy’s unwavering dedication and outstanding contributions to the community.

Joy Maitland, a business psychologist with extensive senior-level corporate management experience, has been a vital part of Plane Saver for the past eight years. With fellowships from the Institute of Directors (IoD), the Institute of Leadership (IoL), and the Chartered Management Institute (CMI), Joy brings a wealth of knowledge and expertise to our organisation. She is also an award-winning Executive Coach and the author of ‘From Alpha to Zen: Leadership for a Brave New World.’

Ian C Atkins, Chair of Plane Saver’s Board of Directors, expressed his admiration for Joy’s remarkable achievements: “Joy Maitland’s appointment to the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire, M.B.E., for Services to Business and to Charity, is a wonderful testament to the dedication with which she applies herself to everything she does. Whether it is in her business or working with her Plane Saver Credit Union colleagues, she adheres to and lives by her motto: ‘Be the Difference. Make the Difference.’ It is no exaggeration to say that The Board and all PSCU employees have benefited enormously from the patience and wisdom that she has applied over the past eight years and ten months. I am personally proud to have met Joy and to have had the opportunity to work with such a wonderful individual who inspires me by living her ideals.

Founded in 1993 by British Airways engineers, Plane Saver has grown to become one of the largest credit unions in the UK, serving over 27,000 members. Their mission is to provide flexible savings and affordable loans while maintaining personalised service and a human touch. Joy’s contributions have been instrumental in guiding the Credit Union toward achieving financial well-being for its members and fostering a supportive community.

Joy Maitland expressed her gratitude and reflections on receiving the MBE: “I am extremely grateful and privileged to receive this appointment to the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire (MBE). This honour is not just a reflection of my work but a celebration of the collective impact we make every day. I look forward to continuing our journey together, striving for excellence and making a meaningful difference.
