Three young professionals from the GB credit union movement have completed their second year at the Southeastern Regional Credit Union School.
For more than 50 years, the Southeastern Credit Union School have been committed to creating the best student experience possible. Last month, Chris Kerrigan (Serve & Protect CU), Daniel Peers (Enterprise Credit Union) and Luke McGilvray (Scottish Universities Community Bank) completed their second year of the course in the States. The six-day long on-site programme provides various management and leadership skills. This included developing skills and knowledge in such areas as financial management, project management, presentation skills and strategic thinking.
Commenting on their experience, the three young professionals gave an account below.
Daniel said: “It was an amazing feeling linking back up with all the students and seeing the familiar faces we had the pleasure of connecting with last year. Our mutual passion for the Credit Union sector has created so many new friendships and I want to thank everyone who welcomed us back and made this experience so incredible!
As my journey continues, my second-year project is already underway and I’m already looking forward to returning to SRCUS for my final year next June and eventually graduating as a Certified Credit Union Executive.
“I would like to say thank you and offer my full appreciation to our friends at Peach State Federal Credit Union and Georgias Own Credit Union.”
Luke said: The first two years of the SRCUS programme have contributed to both my personal and professional development in so many ways. Each aspect and experience of the course supports development differently, making the programme such a unique learning opportunity.
As I reflect on my second-year experience, the classes I found most helpful were focused on change management and leveraging your strengths. From both classes I was able to take tangible actions to deploy during my career. I look forward to completing year three of the SRCUS course next year and passing the CCUE examination.
Chris added: I’ve learnt so much on SRCUS already and although it’s been challenging, it has really helped me develop at Serve and Protect. Our mid-year project was a real highlight for me as we completed a comprehensive financial analysis on our credit unions over a 5-year period.
