This week, on Thursday, the global credit union movement celebrated International Credit Union Day (ICU Day).

Since the first celebration in 1948, ICU Day is a chance to spotlight and celebrate the movement’s achievements. This year’s ICU Day theme, “Building financial health for a brighter tomorrow,” reflects the way credit unions contribute to a brighter future by working to improve members’ financial well-being.

President and CEO of the World Council of Credit Union, Elissa McCarter LaBorde said: “The pandemic continues to challenge us in so many ways. International Credit Union Day is our chance to show the world how we are collectively responding to that challenge by providing assistance and support to our members and investing in new technology that opens new products and services to them.”

Credit unions across the globe showcased how they are working to improve the financial well-being of their members on social media, using the hashtag #ICUDay.

“ICU Day is a chance to showcase the meaningful change the movement brings to members not just worldwide, but also locally. This year’s theme makes us recognise the impact that credit unions make building for a brighter future,” says ABCUL CEO, Robert Kelly. “Our social mission, our social conscience and our ethical base means the movement provides a real daily difference to people’s lives in a positive way.”
