A new series of spending projects to help tackle poverty has been agreed by Inverclyde Council.
The £2million fund targets issues raised before the covid pandemic through the Scottish Index of Multiple Deprivation (SIMD) which identified places across Scotland suffering from poverty.
Tail O’ The Bank has received £8,000 to help tackle poverty in the community and help people become more financially stable. Chief Executive, Beth Welsh said: “The support from Inverclyde council over the last 18 months has been invaluable and we are looking forward to working closely with the council to support the community of Inverclyde to borrow better while building financial resilience for members”.
Inverclyde Council Leader, Councillor Stephen McCabe, said: “Inverclyde was identified as the area with the largest local share of deprived areas and the past year has only compounded how exposed some residents in the area have been.
“The range of initiatives identified to respond to the priorities set out by the community through local engagement and aim to help to focus on issues including employment, business, food and fuel insecurity and in supporting local organisations offering financial help to residents.”
Tail O’ The Bank has recently launched a new website, to improve its digital services for members. Beth added: “The community of Inverclyde can now join online and become part of the credit union difference. We are excited to launch the website to serve members online adding convince to their ethical community services, this is the start of their digital journey and over the coming months more functionalities will be added.”
