St Bernadette’s (Whitefield) Credit Union has transferred its engagements to Hoot Credit Union. The merger deal will help more people build financial resilience.
The community-owned, member-focused co-operative serves anyone living or working in Bolton and Bury and said it has saved its members £1.6m in loan interest by borrowing from Hoot rather than high-cost lenders.
Hoot Credit Union Manager David Batten said: “Hoot is proud to welcome SBCU members and looks forward to serving the saving and lending needs of the people of Bury and Bolton in the coming year.”
St Bernadette’s Vice Chair, Tim McGuire added: “As one of the GB’s smallest volunteer run credit unions with only 150 members, it was increasingly difficult for SBCU to appeal to the next generation.
“Becoming part of Hoot means far more of our community gets to access affordable saving and borrowing with their local credit union.”
