This month, Serve and Protect CU is pleased to announce a merger with Durham Constabulary Credit Union (DCCU) – welcoming their 958 members and £2million in savings.

The merger, which was approved by the DCCU members after the recommendation of their Board of Directors will be completed in early September 2021.

It will provide DCCU members with a wider range of products and services, including access to regular savings accounts and affordable credit, to help support them throughout their careers. All these services can be managed online with the Serve and Protect mobile app.

DCCU was established in 1989 to serve Police Officers and Staff working for Durham Constabulary. Founder Board Member, David Robinson says: “For the last 32 years, DCCU has operated entirely on a volunteer basis. With the increasing burden of compliance and challenges regarding succession planning, the Board of Directors made the decision to seek a merger to ensure we continued the service for our members.

“We were delighted to choose Serve and Protect. Having met with their Board of Directors and Senior Leadership Team, we were more than satisfied that they were the most efficient and professionally run credit union in the sector.”

On the merger, Paul Norgrove, CEO of Serve and Protect CU added: “We are extremely proud that DCCU chose Serve and Protect to support their members and help ensure the continuation of their hard work, dedication and success throughout the last 32 years. This will now see our membership surpass 36,000 and our assets exceed £90 million – we strongly believe that for the credit union sector to continue to grow and deliver more competitive products and services for their members, mergers are a natural way forward.”
