Records Broken and Awards on the Horizon for East Sussex Credit Union

East Sussex Credit Union (ESCU) have reached the milestone of 9,000 members. CEO of ESCU, Ann Hickey was delighted to announce the achievement that includes members holding over £4m in savings.

East Sussex Credit Union (ESCU) have reached the milestone of 9,000 members. CEO of ESCU, Ann Hickey was delighted to announce the achievement that includes members holding over £4m in savings.

“Our growth makes us a strong and more sustainable credit union. As our members increase, and save and borrow from us, we are meeting their needs and helping keep their money local”, said Ann. “By working together, we are helping our community build financial resilience and access affordable, reliable credit which is more important than ever given the economic times we are in.”

East Sussex Credit Union highlighted in its social impact report, its support across the county to help fight financial exclusion and poverty by working in partnership with local authorities, agencies, and charities to provide financial services to many vulnerable people in its community. Key highlights from its report include surpassing 8,700 members this year, 31% joining in the last two years, with over £4m in savings and £1.7m lent out in the last year.

As well as achieving this record-breaking achievement, ESCU has been shortlisted in the British Bank Awards in the Best Personal Loan Provider category. Commenting on being shortlisted for the award, Ann said: “We’re really excited to have been announced finalists for the Best Personal loan award as this is an award based on votes from the public. The support from our members shows that all the hard work we put into providing them with a good service is valued by them. We’re also immensely proud to be the only credit union to be listed as finalists and to be flying the flag for our movement.”
