Last week, ABCUL’s Head of Member Engagement, John Haslam completed the Manchester Marathon raising over to £2,500 for The Credit Union Foundation.
“I have been incredibly humbled by the generosity shown by my credit union friends and beyond. It shows just how important The Credit Union Foundation is to the sector. The race was a long time coming thanks to delays caused by the pandemic, and it was great to finally get it done.”, John said.
The Credit Union Foundation is an active organisation dedicated to improving the lives of the people of the UK through supporting the development and operation of strong credit unions and promoting awareness of them among the general public.
The Credit Union Foundation primarily delivers on this ambition through:
- Developing and providing educational initiatives to individuals working or volunteering in credit unions to improve their ability to serve their communities even better
- Providing grants and support directly to credit unions to allow them to extend the reach of their services
- Providing opportunities for individuals working or volunteering in credit unions to access learning opportunities through other credit union sectors
John set a target of £1,500 and every donation that is received will be worth the hundreds of hours of training he put himself through. However, thanks to generous donations from family, friends and colleagues across the credit union movement the target was smashed by over £1,000.
John added: “Raising money for CUF was my main driver, but I started running in 2018 to improve my mental health and I’d recommend this to everyone who is able to get out there and run”
