Nepalese Credit Union Visits Bradford District Credit Union to Strengthen Global Ties

Bradford District Credit Union (BDCU) recently had the honour of hosting Meelan Dhakal, Chief Financial Officer of Nepal’s Pokhara Royal Savings and Credit Cooperative Society, during his visit to the UK. The meeting marked a significant step in fostering international collaboration within the credit union movement.

Bradford District Credit Union (BDCU) recently had the honour of hosting Meelan Dhakal, Chief Financial Officer of Nepal’s Pokhara Royal Savings and Credit Cooperative Society, during his visit to the UK. The meeting marked a significant step in fostering international collaboration within the credit union movement.

During his time in Bradford, Mr Dhakal met with the Lord Mayor of Bradford, Councillor Beverley Mullaney, at Bradford City Hall. In recognition of the city’s cultural significance, Mr Dhakal received special gifts celebrating Bradford’s designation as the UK’s City of Culture 2025. Flags symbolising friendship between the two credit unions were also exchanged.

Councillor Mullaney commented: “It was a pleasure to welcome Mr Dhakal to Bradford and share our pride in being the UK’s City of Culture 2025. His visit highlights the importance of international collaboration and the fantastic work of Nepal’s credit unions.”

Reflecting on his visit, Mr Dhakal said: “I am deeply impressed by BDCU’s commitment and community spirit. Our shared experiences highlight the strength of the global credit union movement. This visit has been invaluable for exchanging ideas and fostering partnerships that will benefit our members and communities in both Nepal and the UK.”

As part of his visit, Mr Dhakal also explored the historic Rochdale Pioneers Museum, paying homage to the birthplace of the cooperative movement.

This visit underscores the shared mission of credit unions worldwide—to empower communities through financial cooperation and mutual support. BDCU is proud to strengthen ties with international partners and continue advocating for the global credit union movement.
