87 members of Metro Moneywise Credit Union logged on to its very first virtual AGM last month – a 200% increase in attendance compared to last year’s face-to-face meeting.

Members heard from Chief Executive, Ciara Davies who reported on a year of highlights and progression for the Rochdale based credit union. The Credit Union was established in 1990 and this year celebrated a landmark anniversary of 30 years of service.

Fast-forward to 2020 and the credit union reported in its milestone year, it welcomed just under 1,000 new members adding to its total membership of over 10,000 members, holding over £10m of members’ savings, has lent in excess of £50m.

Despite a challenging year, the Credit Union was pleased to be able to pay a 1% dividend on members savings.  Ciara told members, “As a not-for-profit organisation we aim to pay a decent return on your savings, so paying 1% is a big thank you to our members and a sign that we are financially fit and ready for whatever 2021 throws at us.

“Metro Moneywise has built up a strong financial buffer over 30 years which means that we remain financially strong and ready for the next 30 years.”
