This month, Serve and Protect CU launched its Social Impact Report for 2021. The report aims to showcase the impact on the community the Credit Union serves, and the positive difference Serve and Protect is making to people’s lives. Serve and Protect support a community of over two million employees across the Police, Prison, Military, Fire and Health services.
“At a time when our members have sacrificed so much, our mission has never been more relevant. We have continued to support employees at the frontline of the pandemic, helping to tackle money worries, improve financial resilience, and consolidate debt for thousands of keyworkers,” says Serve and Protect CU.
Highlights within the report included, 91% felt they’re being able to save and borrow with repayments straight from their pay with Serve and Protect CU has helped to improve their financial resilience. Also, 90% of members would recommend the Credit Union to friends, colleagues, and family members. Over 40m deposited in savings between July 2020 and June 2021 – a 29% increase on the same period in the previous year.
In the height of the COVID-19 pandemic, Serve and Protect CU helped its members by issuing 4941 loans between July 2020 and June 2021. 34% of these loans issued between July 2020 and June 2021 were for debt consolidation.
“A huge proportion of our lending is to help members consolidate debt. We are proud to not only offer an ethical alternative, but also a competitive option for consolidation loans,” the credit union added.
In February and April, Serve and Protect CU organised the #StayForceFit and #StayFireFit challenges to encourage people to get active. Participants were required to submit miles on behalf of their Police Force or Fire & Rescue Service, with thousands of pounds on the line in donations to Welfare Funds and The Fire Fighters Charity. In the time period of the campaign, 86,920 miles were covered across the #StayForceFit & #StayFireFit with 296 people participating.
