It is with great sadness and real sense of loss that Commsave Credit Union learned of the passing of Derek Jackson.

Derek’s contribution to the establishment and growth of Commsave was immense. He was a member of the steering committee that founded Northamptonshire Postal Workers Credit Union in 1991 and supported its development into a national credit union.   While working for Royal Mail, he served for many years as a volunteer director of the credit union.  Derek became out the  first Chairman of the Board back in 1991 and he also served as Secretary.  Following Derek’s retirement from Royal Mail he re-joined the Board and also served on their Audit & Risk committee.

A statement on Commsave’s website said : “Derek’s total commitment shone through and he attended his final Board meeting in July despite his ill health. Derek was renowned for his common sense and good humour.  He had total focus on improving the lives of our members and delivering our mission of People Helping People.  He also supported the development of our staff team offering support and guidance.

“The Board will consider a lasting memorial to Derek by recognising the unique contribution he has made over many, many years to our credit union. Derek will be deeply missed by all directors and staff at Commsave. We send our deepest condolences to Derek’s wife and family.”

ABCUL CEO, Robert Kelly said: “On behalf of the Association and credit union sector, I offer my sincere condolences to Derek’s family, friends and Commsave Credit Union on his sad passing. His commitment to supporting members and credit union colleagues across the country was very significant and will be greatly missed.

“Having read about the outstanding contribution Derek made to Commsave as a founding committee member, I’m sure the credit union will be keen to maintain and develop his legacy in the years to come.”
