Lewisham Plus Credit Union Wins ‘Unsung Credit Union of the Year Award’

This week on International Credit Union Day, Engage Account announced the winners of its Unsung Hero Awards 2023.

Credit unions were nominated for the awards by their own members and out of many worthy entrants the judging panel declared Lewisham Plus Credit Union (LPCU) the Unsung Credit Union of the Year.

Lewisham Plus Credit Union nabbed first place due to its “commitment to supporting members during emergencies, collab[oration] with local councils for housing assistance” and “truly commendable” financial literacy education with young people – said the judges.

The credit union has over 12,000 members and recently merged successfully with Crownsavers Credit Union. “This Unsung Credit Union of the Year Award came as a complete surprise to all of us at Lewisham Plus Credit Union.” Said LPCU CEO, Ravi Ravindran, and “Whilst we are very pleased to be recognised in this way, for our services to the community, we are also very grateful to our members and the wider community who have supported us for the last 32 years.”

Furthermore, Ravi said “In accepting this award we also acknowledge the work of the wider credit union movement and the untiring work done by many unsung heroes and heroines in their respective communities.”. The support LPCU provide to members was recently highlighted when the credit union was a “massive lifeline” for a mum-of-three who was struggling with her finances.
