Lanarkshire Credit Union has rebranded to Thistle Credit Union and has extended its common bond area to cover the West of Scotland

“We are delighted to announce our change of name to Thistle Credit Union. A huge thank you to our team, who have worked extremely hard over the past year to ensure we maintain the highest level of service to our members”, says CEO, Aaron Kerr. “It’s a testament to the whole team and our members, that we now have the facility to expand and offer more people across Scotland an ethical alternative to lending”.

Blantyre Credit Union first opened for business in November 1991 at the local community centre. Since then, it has grown to over 13,000 members, 25 payroll partners and has lent over £70m in loans.

Jim Lannigan, Business Development Officer, said “it’s an exciting time to be part of the Thistle Credit Union team – we can’t wait to get our name out there and work closely with payroll partners to ensure more people have access to the Salary Deduction Scheme.”

A small team from Thistle Credit Union will be running a 10K on behalf of Carstairs Junction, Sunday 22 August. Carstairs Junction is a new charity, aimed at helping people deal with social isolation. They provide support to the community through:

  • Food parcels
  • Access to the internet
  • DWP support
  • Housing
  • Form filling
  • COVID-19 support
