Just Credit Union Goes Back to School to Hear from Young Entrepreneurs

Earlier this month, pupils at a Telford Primary School presented their “Dragon’s Den” style pitches to Just Credit Union’s management as part of the school’s enterprise initiative. Students at St George’s Primary School were tasked with creating money-making ideas and then calculating their costs and the amount they would need to charge. Each team will run their own stall at the school’s June Enterprise Day and put their plans into action.

The project was made possible by Just Credit Union who donated £2 for each year 6 pupil who participated. The school used the funds donated by the credit union to buy the resources each team needed to run their stall. Head teacher Mrs Sally Sixsmith said: “Enterprise and financial education is a key part of this [varied education] and we would like to thank Just Credit Union for their assistance – we very much look forward to welcoming them back on the actual day and the follow up awards assembly.”

The experience was equally as beneficial for the credit union as Steve Barras, Development Officer at Just Credit Union, said: “Financial education and supporting our community are core to what we do. We were delighted to be asked to get involved with the school’s Enterprise Day.

We really enjoyed listening to each of the teams presenting their business idea and plans.”

This creative idea is an excellent way to provide financial education in an engaging way for kids to understand. Financial education empowers individuals to make money decisions from a young age, and this initiative is a great example of making it fun.
