Branch Development Coordinator at HEY Credit Union, Lauren Walsh has been awarded a leading industry scholarship from the World Council of Credit Unions’ (WOCCU).
WOCCU’s Global Women’s Leadership Network (GWLN) offers an annual scholarship program to female leaders from the global credit union industry. Learning opportunities are made available to scholars through in person and virtual events so they can diversity skill sets, engage with other credit union professionals on a global scale and become better prepared to lead financial cooperatives in the future.
This year, 12 scholarships have been granted which officially make them members of the GWLN and providing them with opportunities for professional development, networking and skill diversification.
Lauren and her peers will receive the in-person learning opportunity with complimentary registration to the World Credit Union Conference (WCUC) in Vancouver, Canada, July 23-26, 2023
“I am delighted to have been chosen for the scholarship and I feel honoured to be given the opportunity to participate” says Lauren. “I am looking forward to working with like-minded people with similar values and goals while developing my leadership skills.”
Director of the GWLN, Lena Giakoumopoulos said: “We’re very excited to be able to offer a larger number of scholarships this year due to the continued support of our industry partners and membership base. These 12 scholars were selected from a record number of more than 60 applicants.
“The new synergies have proven beneficial for the growth of our scholarship program and our effort to engage more women through the global credit union system.”
Since 2009, GWLN has awarded 100 scholarships to women from 30 countries. Back in March, in Manchester, ABCUL re-launched Britain’s chapter of the GWLN, which Lena spoke at. Commenting on the British chapter: “It’s exciting to see the opportunities which can arise from the growing system in the GB. More importantly, it was inspirational to hear from many women and emerging leaders about wanting to get more engaged and actively be part of the growth of the international credit union arena.”
