At this year’s, ABCUL Annual Conference, Director of the Global Women’s Leadership Network (GWLN) in the US, Lena Giakoumopoulos will re-launch Britain’s chapter.

The re-launch will be part of a special plenary session at the annual conference. “This is a significant milestone for the British credit union sector, and we are delighted it will be re-launched at our conference,” says ABCUL CEO, Robert Kelly.

GWLN is one of the original diversity, equity and inclusion initiatives established in 2009 by the World Council of Credit Unions to provide women in the credit union arena a safe forum to discuss issues to further their professional and personal journeys.

The network aims to provide women with the opportunity and resources to make a measurable difference in the lives of each other, their credit unions, and their local communities.

Joining Lena, confirmed guest speaker, Councillor Joanna Midgley – Deputy leader of Manchester City Council.  Commenting on the re-launch of the GWLN in Britain, Lena said: “I’m honored to be part of a re-energised GWLN Great Britain Sister Society, during ABCUL’s conference this year.

“It’s encouraging to hear from our partners in the UK, see how they are addressing issues on women’s equity and keep the conversations going so we can all make a greater impact on women’s advancement in credit unions and financial cooperatives. I’m looking forward to sharing best practices from GWLN and engaging with our international colleagues.”

The re-launch at ABCUL’s conference is available for all delegates attending the two-day event in March.
