This month, Enterprise Credit Union (ECU) has surpassed the incredible milestone of holding £40m in assets. The community-based credit union serves over 23,000 members across Merseyside, which makes it one of the largest community credit unions in Great Britain.

Enterprise has seen an increase in members of approximately 20% over the last five years, but they have been experiencing growth for much longer. ECU has been providing services to members since 1988 when it was born out of a local church and has expanded since to serve families and organisations across Merseyside, including Knowsley, Liverpool, St Helens, Warrington, and the Wirral.

Karen Bennett CBE, CEO of Enterprise said it “seems like yesterday when I became the ‘coordinator’ of Huyton Credit Union in 1998 with just £43,000 in assets. It’s amazing the impact we have made to so many peoples’ lives”. Huyton Credit Union is the former name of ECU, and Karen said that through the credit union’s change and growth, “it’s great to know the values from way back then are still embedded in our credit union today, something I believe is the secret of our success”.

Furthermore, ECU offer their members incredible benefits through its dividend payments – having distributed a total of over £540,000 to members last year. ECU also work hard to benefit the community as well as its members, one way they do this is through their successful Friends of Enterprise Lottery scheme which was recently celebrated here.
