East Sussex Credit Union launched its new name Wave Community Bank on 5 October 2021. The rebrand was driven by a desire to have a name that would reflect their work in the local community, and to attract younger members looking for a local ethical financial service.

Ann Hickey, CEO of Wave Community Bank explains: “We have changed our name so people can understand what we are more easily – an inclusive local community bank for the people of East Sussex. We chose Wave because of the link to the sea as 91% of our existing members live in coastal towns in East Sussex or the city of Brighton & Hove.”

Wave Community Bank based in Hove, began as the East Brighton Credit Union in 2000 and changed to East Sussex Credit Union in 2008 when the common bond was expanded to cover the whole county and Unite members in the South-East Region.

Now with over 9000 members, over £5.1 million in assets and 13 employer partners in its Chorus payroll scheme, Wave Community Bank plan to continue to grow and attract an increasingly diverse membership.
