Now in its ninth year, CU Futures continues to shape the next generation of credit union leaders, having supported 83 graduates from 43 different credit unions across England, Scotland, and Wales since its launch in 2016. This year’s cohort embarked on an insightful two-day study trip to Dublin, Ireland, where they engaged with industry experts and gained firsthand experience of the sector’s operations in Ireland.
The group was warmly welcomed at CMutual’s Head Office, where they had the opportunity to hear from esteemed speakers, including:
- Helen Carberry – CEO, Credit Union Development Association (CUDA)
- David Donnell – Head of Marketing, Dundalk Credit Union
- David Malone – CEO, Irish League of Credit Unions
- David McCauley – CEO, Donore Credit Union
Additionally, the cohort visited Health Services Credit Union to witness daily operations and learn from their best practices.
Project Manager at ABCUL, Jake Hatch, who accompanied the group, expressed his enthusiasm about the visit: “This trip to Dublin has been an outstanding experience for our CU Futures participants. The opportunity to engage with industry leaders, witness innovative practices, and build strong networks has been invaluable. The insights gained will undoubtedly inspire and equip them to drive positive change within their own credit unions. We’re incredibly proud of this cohort’s commitment to learning and their passion for the sector’s future.”
Bobby Gould, Partnership Director at CMutual Group Ltd, reflected on the success of the visit: “We at CMutual had the privilege to host this talented group at our HQ in Dublin. It was truly a pleasure to have them with us for an action-packed two days! Their professionalism, enthusiasm, and engagement in discussions were remarkable, and they represented their credit unions and the UK sector admirably.
“Their fresh perspectives and passion for making a positive impact enriched our sessions, making it a rewarding experience for all involved. We are confident they will continue to drive meaningful change in their credit unions and communities.
“I would also like to acknowledge the incredible supporters and organisers behind CU Futures. Their dedication to nurturing future leaders is invaluable, and together, we are empowering the next generation to achieve great things. The future is in good hands!
“All of us at CMutual are extremely proud to be part of this wonderful initiative, and we look forward to collaborating with CU Futures for many years to come.”
“As CU Futures continues to cultivate leadership and innovation within the sector, experiences such as these serve as pivotal moments in shaping the careers of future credit union professionals. The Dublin visit was not just a learning opportunity but a testament to the collaborative spirit that drives the success of the credit union movement.”
