In 2019 after completing the CU Futures program, 1st Class Credit Union’s Head of Lending, Stacey Mitchinson was given the opportunity to apply for the South-eastern Regional Credit Union School (SRCUS).

Last month, Stacey graduated from the school after three years of studying. “At the time I never believed I would have been chosen as the representative for 1st Class Credit Union and I am still truly grateful for the opportunity,” says Stacey.

Since the school’s formation it has graduated over 1,200 credit union management professionals from 21 states and the District of Columbia. The curriculum is reviewed and revised each year to continue meeting the ever-changing needs of today’s credit union professionals. The program provides a well-rounded curriculum and experiential opportunities for professional and personal growth, challenging each participant to achieve their highest potential by engaging them in learning activities that stimulate critical thinking and increase confidence.

“The classes have a packed agenda and are very inclusive, forcing you to be ready to be involved,” Stacey added. “My biggest challenges other than the Scottish accent and being a redhead in the constant Atlanta sun was mainly the difference in terminology. American credit unions offer a larger variety of services that we are only just scraping the surface of, which meant my knowledge was limited on this.

“Overall, my experience was priceless and has truly helped shape my career development. I have made lifelong friends and have gained further knowledge and understanding of the credit union sector that I wouldn’t have received without this experience. “
