Thursday 17th October marks the 76th annual International Credit Union (ICU) Day, under the theme: One World Through Cooperative Finance. The annual event reflects upon the credit union movement’s history, promote its achievements, recognise hard work, and share member experiences.
Credit unions up and down the country celebrate the day by reflecting on the financial resilience and positive difference that they add to their members’ lives.
“Happy International Credit Union Day to our members and to credit union colleagues and family all across the world,” says ABCUL CEO, Robert Kelly. “Credit unions are the lifeblood of communities building financial resilience every day.
“Since the first celebration in 1948, ICU Day is a chance to spotlight and celebrate these achievements. It gives our movement an opportunity to showcase to the world the impact credit unions make in their local community.”
Great Britain’s total members increased to their highest point at 1,547,619 members. This is a 5.7% increase from the prior year, with around a ten thousand increase in membership in a single quarter.
“Credit unions continue to serve communities and employers across the country at record levels of through the provision of ethical and responsible products and services,” Robert added. “Our mantra of people helping people will continue to be the bedrock of everything we do.
