This week, 17 credit union professionals graduated from Credit Union Development Education Europe. Graduates made the journey to Edinburgh from England, Scotland, and Africa, participating in a six-day course providing an insight into the cooperative principles, the credit union movement philosophy and international development issues which challenge credit unions today.

“We would like to thank all of those who participated, we would also like to thank our mentors & facilitators for their ongoing dedication and hard work throughout the years,” says Course Organiser, Carol Philbin.

The programme has been held since 2004 to promote the importance of the credit union movement, enhance leadership and business skills and to facilitate collaboration and networking across the credit union sector.

Carol added: “Development Education (DE) is a unique co-operative immersion programme that seeks to communicate and promote the role of credit unions in the co-operative sector, and to foster the personal development of advocates for the credit union system. It is the first step toward building a core group of credit union people for ongoing commitment to credit union advocacy.”
