Wolverhampton City Credit Union (WCCU) has teamed up with the City of Wolverhampton Council to help families save for school uniforms, with a boost to their Child Savers Account.

Child members who open an account with WCCU, will have their savings matched £ for £ to a maximum of £75.00 to purchase a school uniform. The scheme will help start children on their financial journey and encourage regular savings.

CEO of WCCU, Tameka Spencer had the pleasure of meeting Leader of the council, Councillor Stephen Simkins for the launch of the new child savings incentive scheme.

“I am passionate about helping and supporting families in our local communities,” said Tameka. “The school uniform savings scheme will make a huge difference, plus help and encourage children to save for their future.”

Councillor Simkins welcomed the venture and said it was a great idea to help the on-going worry many parents faced affording school uniform.

“As a council we’re committed to helping parents do the best for their children and we know the cost of school uniforms is a constant worry, especially when children grow out of them so quickly.

“This is a great scheme and I’m glad we’ve been able to team up with the credit union and match people’s savings. I hope it helps not only pay for school uniform, but also cement great financial habits like saving from a young age.”
