Council Teams Up with Wolverhampton City Credit Union to Help Parents Afford School Uniforms

Affording new school uniforms is always a worry for parents, so the council has teamed up with Wolverhampton City Credit Union for the second year running to help families.

Child members opening an account with the credit union will have their savings matched pound for pound to a maximum of £75 to purchase school uniform. The scheme will help start children on their financial journey and to encourage regular saving, a minimum of £5 is retained in the child’s junior account.

The council and credit union first teamed up last year to offer the scheme with funding from the Government’s Household Support Fund. Leader of the council, Councillor Stephen Simkins said last year helped many families and he is glad they can work with the credit union to provide support again this year.

“I know how parents constantly feel the pressure to buy uniform for children and it can feel like it’s never-ending as children grow so quickly. With the cost of living still putting pressure on household finances, I’m glad we can work with the credit union again this year to help parents when they need it most.
