Connection Credit Union celebrates its 40th anniversary

This month the longest running credit union in the South West of England, Connection Credit Union celebrates its 40th anniversary.

Back in 1980, a common bond was established for Raychem employees in Swindon yet no funding was received from Raychem, but 9 volunteers put a roadshow together.  They registered under the Industrial and Provident Societies Act 1965 and 71 people joined.  Now in 2016 membership stands at 546, with 39 volunteers and 2 employees with assets of £1.4 million.

A physical event to mark the occasion has been postponed due to the local restrictions, but members joined a celebration online.

“It is with great pride that Connection Credit Union can celebrate this achievement. I thank all volunteers, employees, and board members for the hard work we have put into making the credit union an important asset to the community,” says Angela Pugh, Secretary of Connection Credit Union.

ABCUL CEO, Robert Kelly said: “”On behalf of the entire Association, I’d like to express our congratulations to Connection Credit Union and thanks for providing four decades of vital community service – this is a wonderful achievement and one that should be celebrated.

“The enthusiasm and dedication of the credit union volunteer and director base is still evident after 40 years of service to their community. Our collective future is very bright but let’s remember the roots of our success are firmly placed in the vision so many co-operators had all those decades ago.”
