Last week, the Cooperative Trust ran its 15th annual conference event in Washington DC, USA and ABCUL’s Young Professionals Network Chair, Emily Alexander attended the event in a week-long study trip.

The 2024 ‘Crash the GAC’ delegation included 58 talented credit union professionals from across the world who have demonstrated exceptional dedication to the credit union movement. These emerging leaders have played pivotal roles within their credit unions and have shown a commitment to advancing the values and principles that define the industry.

The Governmental Affairs Conference ran from Sunday 03 to Thursday 07 March where thousands of delegates gathered to represent one united voice to advocate for the credit union industry and members. The event boasted thousands of delegates, world-class speakers from business and politics and many opportunities to nurture and grow networks.

“America’s Credit Unions Governmental Affairs Conference has been the trip of a lifetime!” said Emily.

Emily continued: “Spending the week with CEOs, board presidents, SVPs, VPs, marketing depts, risks depts, branch managers, customer services teams, and so many more has been eye-opening. I’ve learnt so much about CUs across the Atlantic, and the past week has been insightful to say the least.

I’ve gained a deeper understanding of the issues facing credit unions, as well as the opportunities for growth and innovation. The advocacy work being done on Capitol Hill is truly impressive, and I feel proud to be a part of this movement.”
