As keyworkers, Celtic Credit Union staff in Port Talbot have gone the extra mile to keep their branch serving members throughout the Covid-19 pandemic, even when it meant opening a new office.

The credit union has moved to 123 Station Road, just a stone’s-throw away from the property it used for the last eight years.  While the move had been long-planned and prepared for, it was thrown into chaos by the outbreak of Covid-19.

Celtic Credit Union Business Development Manager Julie Mallinson explained: “Unfortunately the timing of our move from the old office was not ideal but the lease had already been agreed in January when we couldn’t have foreseen the challenging times ahead.”

With the support of Neath Port Talbot Council, the staff of Celtic Credit Union moved into the new branch this week although parts of the refurbishment can’t be completed until restrictions are lifted.

“It wasn’t the smooth journey we had planned, but everyone pulled together and, with support from Tristan Mitchell of Red Dragon IT and Jason Davies of DJ Davies Properties, we’ve successfully managed it,” Julie added.

“I can’t thank the team enough, it’s been a challenging couple of weeks, but we are determined to keep open and serve our members.

“The larger public areas in the new Port Talbot office allow for greater social distancing during the Covid-19 pandemic outbreak, helping us to protect our members and staff much better than the old office allowed.

“We also like our new address because we can tell customers that the range of financial services we offer are as easy to access as 1,2,3!”
