The inspiration for the CDCU pilot project and the creation of this white paper/call to action has originated from ABCUL’s discussions and interaction with the North American credit union system over the last 10+ years – particularly our innovative partnership with Inclusiv (USA based credit union trade association).

Citibank very graciously funded ABCUL’s early partnership activity with Inclusiv which involved study visits to the USA for ABCUL member credit unions and ABCUL staff over a sustained number of years – this was reciprocated as Inclusiv member credit unions and staff would attend the ABCUL Conference on an annual basis and share learning and expertise. The Association was inspired by the community development and community empowerment agenda in place in the USA where credit unions were supported in its product and service delivery to reach underserved communities and families across the country.
