Bradford District Credit Union (BDCU) has won Lender of the Year at the Yorkshire Financial Awards 2025, recognising its outstanding commitment to ethical lending, community support and financial innovation.
The award was collected by the lending team, led by Lending Lead Keir Terry, at a ceremony in Leeds. Keir said: “This award is for our members and the communities we serve. We’re proud to be a not-for-profit cooperative that puts people before profit, helping families across Yorkshire borrow safely and affordably, especially during the ongoing cost-of-living crisis.”
BDCU CEO, Katie Hurrell added: “This recognition highlights the heart of what we do – helping people in real need access fair credit. Our work is about building financial resilience in Bradford and giving people a genuine alternative to high-cost lenders and Loan Sharks. BDCU achieved record-breaking new lending of £2.8 million, a 20% growth rate. Due to our substantial savings balance of £6.5 million, we have increased our loan limit to £25,000, providing more substantial financial support to our members with rates from 7.9% APR.’
Councillor Susan Hinchcliffe, Leader of Bradford Council, said: “The award is really well deserved. Bradford Council has been proud to support the Credit Union over the past 33 years. BDCU plays a vital role in our city by offering safe and ethical lending, especially for residents who may otherwise struggle to access fair financial services as well as staff through Payroll deduction scheme. Community lending like this is a lifeline for so many.”
With over 11,000 members and strong partnerships with councils, employers and community partners, BDCU has become a trusted local lender and savings provider.
