This month, Bradford District Credit Union (BDCU) have surpassed 9,000 members to its membership, an increase of 6,000 people joining in the last six years.

“For almost 30 years, BDCU have been helping local people have access to its services,” says Financial Inclusion Officer, Ian Brewer. “We are thrilled that over 9,000 members of our community have decided to join the credit union.”

A key area of business for the credit union is its community-based projects with local charitable organisations. Most recently, BDCU partnering with Inn Churches launched its ‘FoodSavers’ campaign. This is a Bradford Council funded project, which has 10 outlets around Bradford offering low-cost food to the community with members able to save into their BDCU accounts to build up their savings. “Members have so far saved over £4,000 offering a unique way to save in the community,” Ian added.

BDCU has been recognised for the financial inclusion work we do in the community both nationally and internationally to help people through the pandemic and the current cost-of-living-crisis.

Charles Randle, former Chair of the Financial Conduct Authority: ‘It’s great to see the partnership work going on in Bradford to tackle the cost-of-living-crisis by helping residents get into the Savings Habit and access affordable loans and I commend the success you have had in growing your membership during the pandemic”.
