Last month, Black Squirrel Credit Union celebrated its 20th anniversary serving communities in Hertfordshire and Bedfordshire.

Last month, Black Squirrel Credit Union celebrated its 20th anniversary serving communities in Hertfordshire and Bedfordshire.

Now with over 1,000 members with a total of over £800,000 in savings and over £800,000 in loans, President Martin Stears-Handscomb spoke at a special event describing the credit union’s growth to a room of members, volunteers, key stakeholders and Chair of the All Party Parliamentary Credit Union Committee, Bim Afolami MP.

Martin highlighted the partnerships the credit union have with its two main housing associations and North Herts Council , with whom the credit union had worked over the past twelve years to help homeless people into their own accommodation.

He thanked the dedicated group of volunteers for their contribution in time and expertise over the last twenty years and looked forward to continual progress in the years to come.

Treasurer of Black Squirrel, Bernard Lovewell said: “We have plans in place to improve our services to members through technology.

“In the first twenty years we have built up a good reputation and there is so much more we can achieve with the right technology and human resources”.
