The ABCUL Annual Conference 2025 gets underway this weekend, bringing together the British credit union movement for an unmissable two-day event. Taking place on Friday 14 and Saturday 15 March at The Queens Hotel in Leeds, the conference will offer invaluable opportunities for credit union leaders, policymakers, and industry experts to engage in discussion, networking, and key policy debates.
Adding to the excitement, a delegation of U.S. credit union peers will be joining the event, offering international insight and expertise. Their participation will further strengthen global collaboration and provide ABCUL members with valuable perspectives on best practices and innovations.
Debbie Smith-Hands, ABCUL’s Head of Member Engagement, shared her enthusiasm ahead of the event: “We are delighted to welcome our members from across the country to one of our largest conferences ever. The ABCUL Annual Conference is always a highlight in the sector’s calendar, and this year’s event promises to be particularly special. With a fantastic lineup of speakers, including our U.S. credit union guests, and a packed agenda designed to inform, inspire, and energise, we look forward to a truly memorable weekend.”
The two-day programme features a dynamic mix of plenary sessions and breakout discussions tailored to credit unions of all sizes. A key highlight on Friday afternoon will be a special video address from Economic Secretary to the Treasury, Emma Reynolds. With recent regulatory changes announced in November aimed at driving growth and competitiveness in the sector, her message will reinforce the importance of credit unions in promoting financial inclusion.
Delegates will also have the chance to meet ABCUL’s incoming CEO, Matt Bland, and hear from him directly during a Friday afternoon plenary session.
“The ABCUL team is excited to welcome everyone to Leeds for what promises to be an insightful and inspiring weekend,” Debbie added. “With so much to discuss and share, this conference will be a defining moment in shaping the future of the credit union sector.”
