This week, the World Council’s Young Credit Union Professionals (WYCUP) program celebrated its 20th anniversary with a global, virtual celebration.

WYCUP began as an international scholarship program to raise the voice of young leaders across the credit union sector. Over the years it has expanded engagement and professional development globally. Today it represents a global community of young professionals who recognize the potential for financial cooperatives to positively impact the world.

At this week’s event, ABCUL’s Young Professionals Network shared its successes with a video presentation.  Director of the WYCUP Program, Thomas Belekevich, said: “In recent years, WYCUP has strengthened its ties to YP networks around the world and we are thrilled to include ABCUL’s Young Professionals Network among our global family.

“Your mission to develop, engage, inspire and retain young professionals within the credit union sector is critical to the long-term sustainability of the movement. We thank everyone at YPN for inspiring our colleagues around the world by sharing your passion as young ambassadors for the cooperative sector. And thank you to ABCUL for leading the effort to provide greater opportunities for young professionals. You all inspire hope for our global community.”

Commenting on ABCUL’s YPN progress, ABCUL CEO, Robert Kelly said: “I’d like to thank and congratulate all members of the YPN and our dedicated committee for the great successes so far. We’re delighted with the start and delighted to give young people a chance to show their worth within our sector and to show they’re leaders of today.”

ABCUL’s Young Professionals Network provides a robust and dynamic environment for young credit union professionals to connect, learn and live the sector’s cooperative values enabling them to develop into credit union leaders and retaining their talent within the British movement.
