During a special session at this week’s conference in Glasgow, young credit union professionals from across the globe received recognition for the World Council of Credit Unions (WOCCU) World Young Credit Union Program (WYCUP) scholarships awarded in 2020 and 2021 during the final general session of the 2022 World Credit Union Conference.
WYCUP also recognised young professionals affiliated with the Association of British Credit Unions Limited (ABCUL), as part of a new fellowship program that recognises the growth of national YP networks.
“It’s more important than ever before that we invest in our networks—that we have spaces to share and learn from one another, and in the process understand that we have more in common than our superficial differences. We have a shared interest in the success of people everywhere,” said Thomas Belekevich, WYCUP Director. “So today we are here to celebrate young leaders from around the world and the connections they have made through this global network that we call WYCUP.”
Commenting on the award received from WYCUP, Chair of ABCUL’s YPN, Luke McGilvray said: “Thank you to WYCUP and WOCCU for acknowledging the amazing work Association of British Credit Unions young professionals have done to create a successful support network in Britain. I am extremely proud to receive recognition on behalf of everyone’s hard work.
“We’re delighted with its progress & to give young people a chance to show our worth within the sector.”
