ABCUL’s Young Professionals Network were delighted to announce the appointment of its new Chair, Luke McGilvray.

Launched at the 2019 ABCUL Annual Conference, the ABCUL Young Professionals Network is the national platform for young credit union leaders to engage and promote the credit union movement. The Network is led by a volunteer Steering Committee of seven committed young professionals and newly appointed Chair, Luke McGilvray of 1st Class Credit Union and Co-chairs, Caterina Angieri (Serve and Protect Credit Union) and Ruksana Kauser (Calderdale Credit Union).

“Having now worked for 7 years within the credit union sector I am honoured to be the second-ever chair of our YPN group,” Luke says. “I am the Head of Member Services of 1st Class Credit Union after beginning my journey as a member services officer.”

“I am delighted to work with a volunteer steering committee of dedicated colleagues ensuring our network provides opportunities for our young professionals. We have now created a sustainable network allowing us to provide training, networking and development prospects annually for years to come.

“I find myself extremely excited to deliver our plans to you over the next 12 months. I hope as many of you join in as possible, you will not regret it.”

A priority of the Network is focusing on the unique role of younger professionals in shaping the future of our sector. Operating for two years, it has successfully held three face-to-face events, a week-long series of online sessions for members, digital webinars for the Network exploring different themes focusing around the important issues within the credit union movement and a mind setting for performance and wellbeing online course.

The YPN Committee is also excited to announce that four members of the Network will have the opportunity to apply for a conference pass at this year’s World Council of Credit Union’s conference event in Glasgow, co-hosted by ABCUL. Further details of how to register for the Network and apply for a conference place is available in the YPN brochure here.
