Last week in Liverpool, young professionals from across the credit union sector in Great Britain attended ABCUL’s Young Professionals Network event.
The event welcomed 30+ members from the network, which centered around identifying and developing key leadership skills and behaviors that will improve their career path in the sector.
The YPN hosted a great line-up of speakers and topics including a panel session with YPN Chair, Emily Alexander (Penny Post Group) and Vice Chair, Liam Cartwright (Enterprise Credit Union) and its CEO, Karen Bennett discussing the importance of young professionals in the work environment and why it’s vital to further their progression through personal development. The Network also heard from Rhys Evans & Tom Laing from Cooperatives UK to learn about the organisations youth advisory group and why young professionals in the cooperative sector are vital for the sector’s next generation of leaders.
“It was excellent to welcome likeminded young professionals from across the credit union sector in Liverpool,” says Emily Alexander. “I speak on behalf of the YPN committee when I say how proud I am of the Network’s success over the last six years, and look forward to hosting many more events similar to last week’s in the future.”
In the final session of the day, Anne Orr from Boards 123 presented a session titled “How to Lead when you are not a Leader (Yet)”.
During the session, attendees explored how to develop leadership goals, alongside the wider social trends of environmental, social impact and good governance, which are essential for the credit union sector. This session was interactive, and all participants had the opportunity to design their own personalised leadership development plan.
“Thank you to our inspiring speakers for sharing your insights and experiences,” Emily added. “Your wisdom has ignited our passion and ambition as young professionals, reminding us that success is a journey best navigated together”.
