ABCUL response to latest Government advice on COVID-19 situation

In light of the latest Government advice around tackling the spread of the coronavirus (COVID-19) the decision was taken to close the ABCUL office from close of business on Tuesday 17^th March 2020 and move to a remote working solution/remote member service delivery until at least Friday 3^rd April 2020.

Commenting on the ongoing situation for the Association and for credit unions across the country, ABCUL CEO, Robert Kelly said: “This reflects the ever changing nature of the situation we are in – this is unprecedented times for all of us. We have instigated our Business Continuity Plan and all staff will now revert to remote/home working during that period.

“It’s important to stress that all staff will be able to access email and key systems. This situation is moving very quickly and we will be keeping members updated via email and our website.

“Despite these unprecedented times we remain as committed as ever to helping our members navigate any issues and concerns they may have.  With co-operation and collaboration in mind we will do everything in our power to support our members in the days and weeks ahead.  That’s my personal commitment to everyone in the ABCUL family.”

Following the announcement on Wednesday 18 March by the Chancellor that £350bn will be made available to aid businesses during this difficult financial time, Robert said: “We will look closely at today’s announcements from the Chancellor and in the days ahead to ensure the emerging needs of the credit union sector and its member base are met as robustly as possible in this escalating crisis.”

Robert has also stressed the importance of unity and collaboration between the sector’s trade bodies, “I wholeheartedly support a co-ordinated approach from the sector’s national trade associations during this current crisis. We should collaborate and apply our co-operative principles at every opportunity.”
