£150,000 Grant Awarded to 1st Alliance (Ayrshire) Credit Union

As part of its North Ayrshire Recovery Plan, Local Councillor, Joe Cullinane has agreed to make a £150,000 grant to 1st Alliance (Ayrshire) Credit Union.

As part of its North Ayrshire Recovery Plan, Local Councillor, Joe Cullinane has agreed to make a £150,000 grant to 1st Alliance (Ayrshire) Credit Union.

“The pandemic has left many families struggling financially and the grant will help 1st Alliance provide access to fair credit, helping to prevent people from going to high-cost loan sharks when in need,” says Joe.

Community Wealth Building is about supporting democratic forms of finance to increase flows of investment in local economies. Joe added: “Credit unions are owned by their members and 1st Alliance is one of the most progressive in the country – doing so much to improve financial inclusion for people through North Ayrshire. Delighted to be putting our Community Wealth Building strategy into practice by supporting 1st Alliance with this grant”.

1st Alliance Credit Union has been supporting members in North Ayrshire throughout the lockdown offering all of its services to them. “We are proud at 1st Alliance to offer affordable community banking where our members come first,” says CEO of 1st Alliance, Carol McHarg.
