Confirming Change of CHB Destination Bank – DWP

    Hi, All

    We, like many credit unions, offer a Family Support Loan that is repaid using part of the member’s CHB. Prior to issuing a first Family Support Loan, we ask for evidence that the destination bank has been changed to come to our bank details. This has to be supported with a copy of the PDF report that the DWP app produced which contained confirmation of the new destination bank details.

    We have, only this week, found out that the PDF report is no longer available on the DWP app or their website process. We wait until we have the PDF confirmation before issuing our Family Support Loans. While not fool-proof, and we are aware the applicant/member can immediately change the details again, it did provide us with evidence of intent the member had committed to start their repayments. It also provided some evidence, should it be needed to confirm there may have been some attempt to commit fraud if the details were immediately changed back etc.

    Can I ask, beyond waiting for the payment of CHB to be received, what process do other credit unions have to confirm the change of CHB details and to then issue the loan? Waiting on receipt of CHB is, we feel, impractical. Someone on a 4-wkly schedule of CHB benefit could feasibly be waiting nearly the full 4 weeks before their loan is disbursed.
